The $842,000 renovation transformed Laboratory 140 into an ISO Class 7 cleanroom designed to support Class 3 and Class 4 laser equipment. To meet the unique operational requirements of the space, the project included:
- Renovating existing laboratory areas to create a specialized ISO Class 7 cleanroom environment.
- Installing systems and safety features to support Class 3 and Class 4 laser operations, including emergency shut-off controls and interlocked access.
- Upgrading building infrastructure and environmental controls to meet stringent research, safety, and air-quality standards.

How Was Existing Space Transformed Into Modern Learning Environments?

The renovation included selective demolition, new classrooms, support storage areas, floor leveling, and modifications to the building’s existing egress system to improve circulation throughout the space.
Key improvements included:
- Converting existing shell space into new classrooms and support storage areas.
- Leveling the existing sloped floor slab to create functional learning environments.
- Modifying building egress by infilling an existing exit and installing a new stairwell access door.
- Installing new structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and life-safety systems throughout the renovated space.
